The Droitwich (Mid-Worcestershire) RingThe two canals which run through Droitwich are the Barge Canal and the Junction Canal. Since the 1970's, these two canals have been lovingly restored by the Droitwich Canals Trust. The restored Droitwich Canals have reconnected the Worcester & Birmingham Canal at Hanbury (the inspiration for "The Archers") with the upper reaches of the River Severn (near Hawford) forming a cruising ring of about 35 miles.
An ideal mid-week break. The 'Mid-Worcestershire Ring' makes it possible for boaters to discover the beautiful spa town of Droitwich, the cathedral city of Worcester, a river navigation, one broad canal and two narrow canals all in the space of a mid-week break! Throw in a mixture of 34 canal and river locks, and it all adds up to a fantastic must-see ring! The official opening of the canals coincided with the Droitwich Water Festival on 1st - 3rd July 2011, and the canals are now fully open. |
